The Bradford Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) met Saturday, January 14 at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. A brief business meeting was led by co-president Marlene Walb. Walb acknowledged the efforts of Hospitality Committee members Isabelle Champlin, “Boots” Higie and Trisha Morris. A nominating committee was formed with Mary Keller as the chair. The organization voted to have its web site hosted by national AAUW, which would give our local branch greater visibility. Diane Winger will continue to serve as our web master. Susan Hughes, membership vice-president, and Mary Keller, legislative officer, noted that this is the 40thanniversary of Title IX. Sharie Radzavich, program vice-president, collected food and personal items to be donated to the YWCA Pantry.
After the business meeting and the awarding of the door prizes, the group worked on its 3rd annual service project to support the Empty Bowls and Baskets Dinner, which is slated for March 15, 2012 at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. Last year the dinner raised $1,855 for the Friendship Table. AAUW members measured, cut and sewed material to make handmade cloth napkins to donate to the Empty Bowls and Baskets Project.
